We are a couple, in BKK for two nights, want to see temples, night market, etc. Split between Sheraton Grande, Royal Orchid and Four Points. Any recommendations? We stayed in Le Meridient last time and found the area too seedy. I would like to be near at least a convenience store so we can buy water, food for breakfast etc. Thanks in advance!

My fave is the Royal Orchid Sheraton. It's right on the river, convenient for taking water taxis and there is a shuttle boat to the skytrain. There are convenience stores closeby. Most room prices include the lavish breakfast buffet.
my fav is the plaza anthanee..... ROS offers a nice location on the river but i find the hotel a bit old, but it has the best of the starwood pools...
if you did not like the area around the meridien, i don't think you would like the area around the grande...
Thanks for the help - we are using points so that generally doesn't include breakfast. I think the ROS looks like a good deal and is a level below (redemption wise) the Sheraton Grande. Any thoughts on the new cheaper starwoods - aLoft and Four Points?

Great Thai restaurant cooking school at royal Orchid too...
IMO, the area around the Sheraton Grande is not nearly as seedy as the area around the Le Meridien, and there's a huge new shopping mall right across the street with a nice supermarket in the basement. The Four Points is very close by, and has some nice reviews by visitors. It's the newest.

Warm greetings, tansmets. Concerning BKK Starwood properties, I've always enjoyed staying at the Royal Orchid, Sheraton Grande, Westin Grande and of late, the St. Regis for monthly business meetings in Bangkok. Of the four, I'd give the clear edge to the St. Regis. (Personal/professional reasons: some fine friends have been transferred from the SGS to the property and the hotel is rather convenient for my current work in BKK.)
(If so inclined, I've reviewed all four properties on this site, on my profile page and an earlier St. Regis thread.)
Should the St. Regis be a bit beyond your budget and/or Starpoint threshold, will suggest the riverside Royal Orchid for you. Special staff and I've always cherished a certain lodging on the 25th Floor. Watching the river flow these days, indeed.)
Wherever you stay, joyous times to you,

qw, The Blue Elephant isn't at the Royal Orchid! And while the RO has a lovely Thai restaurant offering Royal Thai cuisine, they do not have a cooking school.

I was surprised in a good way by the Four Points on Soi 15.
Breakfast - very good food selection
Gym - weights and cardio, will do for short visits
Pool - a bit small, but nice rooftop location
Service - pretty good, check in and out is fast and efficient
Location - easy walk to asoke skytrain and a huge new shopping center that will might open in Nov.
Good value for points or points and cash.
Anxious to experience that new mall at/by Asoke. Thanks for the reminder.
Michaelbkk, what about coming to Maeng's for our GTG on 22nd.
Carol
(degas.. is that you?)
Carol, planning on it.
Hi, an update to this thread - I now see all the hotels in BKK available for our dates for cash + points.
We are leaning to Royal Meridien Plaza Athanee - thoughts?

Warm greetings again, tansmets. Do not have personal lodging experiences at your hotel listed above (though colleagues and friends have enjoyed their PA stays). However, I have been receiving rather attractive offers of late from another fine Bangkok Starwood property (and current BKK business travel favourite), the St. Regis.
Mind you, the targeted email offers are of the frequent corporate guest variety, but it wouldn't hurt to enquire what the St. Regis might be willing to offer you. (For what it's worth, the Nov. Bangkok business meeting - at St. Regis - was rescheduled for more than a few reasons. Now, early Dec., one hopes for all.)
(And, for any of you Peninsula hotel fans out there, I'm going to give a big thanks to that hotel's fine management and staff: our planned Loy Krathong celebration at the property was postponed until next year (for more than a few reasons), so the Peninsula was gracious enough to offer a most agreeable frequent guest rate of its own. Schedules permitting, the plan is a brief Dec. holiday (and King celebration) immediately after meetings are concluded at the St. Regis.)
Wherever you stay, enjoy.

Executive lounge - my favorite in BKK.
