Which is better with kids, Dubai or Singapore ?
Hello,
Planning to go for 8 days during Christmas to either Dubai or Singapore. We have two kids aged 9 and 11.
Is either place better than the other for the following ?
1) Entertainment for kids
2) Stuff to do for both kids and adults

I think the OP is looking for a little more info, perhaps based on personal experiences, have you ever been to Dubai?
Both places are going to be very busy and maybe the cost will play a part in the decision but here's a few suggestions
Singapore
Sentosa Island
There is a Universal Studios there, its a lot smaller than in the US, but my 9 year old son really enjoys it. It will be incredibly busy, expect almost 2 hour waits for popular rides
A pretty tame water park which if you have been to other water parks, it may be a disappointment
A very high cable car that takes you from Singapore to Sentosa
An iFly that uses a wind machine to allows you to simulate sky driving, I've seen kids looking 9 - 11 years old on it
Golf, very expensive and virtually impossible to get on the good private courses, most people take a ferry to Bintan in Indonesia
Zoo, its very good and especially with night time safari's
LegoLand - This is in Johor Bahru in Malaysia but you can get buses to it from Singapore
The heat in Singapore could be a problem 32C, I like heat but combined with the high humidity 95%, it can get almost unbearable and exhausting
To cool off, there are shopping malls everywhere, I have no interest in them
Dubai
Perfect temperatures at that time of year, probably around 25C with no humidity
Desert safari's where you are taken in a 4WD drive into the dunes, great fun for everyone
Wadi Wadi water park, a couple of daring rides otherwise fairly tame
Snow Skiing indoors, my son never see's snow so he loves it
Burj Khaliffa, we go to the atmosphere restaurant for the views and lunch
There are aquariums but I haven't been to them
Kidzania, this is an interactive role playing experience, my son did it last year and really enjoyed it
Golf is readily available but quite expensive at that time of year
Ifly is available in Dubai as are the huge shopping malls
I think the hotels in Dubai are a higher quality but Singapore is not far behind. The quality of the food in both places is very high

Singapore has lots of interesting things for kids - and I don't count Sentosa as one of them. The night zoo, Jurong Bird Park, etc. While it is hot in Singapore, it's easy to get out of the heat and into air conditioning.
I believe in exposing kids to different cultures. Singapore is excellent for that with Little India, Chinatown, etc. Somehow indoor snow skiing strikes me as - well, let me just say, not a cultural experience.

Where did the OP ask for cultural experiences, he is asking for activities to do for his children and family. I actually took my son yo Little India last week and he hated it, I don't blame him its rat infested, smelly, litter everywhere, noisy trucks and vans spewing out out crap, "well, let me just say, it wasm't a cultural experience"
As well as not having been to Dubai I suspect you've never had children as well

Apparently you and I, Geordie, have had very different experience of Little India - both are valid observations.
I have not been to Dubai. I have read about it extensively and talked with a number of friends who have been there and on the basis of my research I have chosen to actively avoid Dubai. I'm guessing, Geordie, that you and I are looking for different things in a destination. Nothing wrong with that. And this conversation gives the OP more info on which to base his/her decision.
Singapore is over-the-top decorated for Christmas with lots of Christmas activities, if that matters to your children.

Hello everyone,
Thanks a lot for the suggestions. As with all destinations it is sometimes difficult to choose one over the other.
So I went ahead and made bookings for Dubai.

Belated greetings to the OP, golfdude, and congratulations on impending Dubai holiday. Should your future travels ever take you and your family to our fine home of Singapore, honoured to assist with suggestions.
Writing to covey high praise of a most satisfactory - albeit brief - Dubai working visit earlier this week; specifically, the rather new Four Seasons. Lovely property and an interesting change from my previous Dubai business travel hotel, Emirates Towers. If not staying at the FS, consider making time to explore her public venues and perhaps, her restaurants. Class operation.
Normally conclude with more praise of 'our' Singapore Airlines, but today will give thanks to Emirates and a most recent work related, business class flight from Dubai to Heathrow. Flight in question: EK 3, DXB-LHR. For various personal and professional reasons, remain quite partial to SQ, but will say have always experienced fine EK business related flights and service.
Hope you enjoy Dubai. Will confess, my Dubai business trips have made me appreciate our sweet city-state of SIN all the more. That said, I do find Dubai fascinating as an ever-evolving aviation, business, holiday and lodging destination (and a superb opportunity to experience the 'competition', namely Emirates and the Dubai airport). And, as for that choice between Singapore and Dubai, some cherished Scotland-dwelling cousins swear by SIN -- and some cherished London-dwelling family friends swear by Dubai (and I'll probably hear more Dubai praise from them this evening).
