I'm spending a few days in Ho Chi Minh City this December, which I'd like to follow up with a few days at the beach before heading off to Cambodia. Any recommendations on a good beach in Vietnam? Preferably something a quick flight from HCMC. We're two young guys, and we'd like a relatively cheap/backpackers destination that's not full of resorts. Any advice would be much appreciated.

Wildlife Tour of India

Hi Joel,
you can check and try nha trang, phu quoc, mui ne. these 3 beaches are the best beaches in the area. Among 3 beaches Nha Trang is well known for its pristine beaches and excellent for scuba diving and snorkeling.
Nah trang fits the bill as far as "cheap backpackers destination" is concerned, although there are some upmarket resorts around. It has grown quite a lot in recent years so is now very busy but lots to see round and about. The diving is good (if you don't mind the odd bit of dynamite fishing going on at the same time!) easily reached by plane from Saigon.

Take a car or bus to Mui Ne and spend some days there. If limited time try in Vung Tau just 2 hours from Ho Chi Minh. Or you can take flight from Ho Chi Minh to Phu Quoc paradise beach and spend 2 or 3 days there, you can relax on beach, go fishing...
