Where to stay Shibuya or Shinjuku?

Heading to Japan in Sept/Oct and we don't know where to stay. I've spent some time looking and there are so many choices. There are 2 of us and would love to stay under $160 a night and must be non-smoking.

Any ideas?

We are staying at Citadines in Shinjuku next October which should be in your range. Excellent reviews on TA.

At current exchange $1USD = around 94 yen; deduct the conversion charge etc. and you might get 92 yen. So, 160 * 92 is approx 14000 or 15000 yen.

Please remember the season of the year and market demand on the hotel can affect rates.

1. Toyoko Inn 12 minute walk east of Shinjuku station, twin rooms around 11000 Yen. Only around $120 or so but the rooms will be small. Friend who stayed here reported that it's a standard 'businessman's' hotel; clean, does the job, well-regarded, but no frills.

2. Hotel Century Southern Tower, 3 minutes south of Shinjuku station, twin around 15 or 16000 yen, $175 or so. It gets good reviews, although it is a bit over your budget.

Hotels in your price range in Shinjuku, I don't like the Shibuya area for a place to stay but others like it:

Shinjuku New City Hotel
Washington Hotel
Hotel Sunroute Plaza(I like the Sunroute hotels in Japan)
Kadoya Hotel(I like this location in Nishi-Shinjuku)
Mitsui Garden Hotel

Aloha!

Check Agoda for rates for your shortlist. We often saw either cheaper prices or slightly better room type for the money.

We booked Hotel Century Southern Tower through Agoda in Shinjuku for last October and paid about 18,000 yen per night. It was a pretty late booking, just a week before we travelled.
