Where to stay in Tokyo?

I am spending 3 nights in Tokyo for vacation. Which is the best neighborhood to stay in? We like to be near some sort of nightlife (at least restaurants and bars) and not to far away from the main sightseeing.
THANKS!

Ryokan Shigetsu in Asakusa. A 5 minute walk to the Ginza line station which will get you to most parts of Tokyo that you would want to go in a 3 day visit very easily. I would go with the Japanese style room. Lots of good places to eat within a 10 minute walk radius.

Take the Skyliner from Narita to Ueno and transfer to the Ginza line to Asakusa. Walk towards Nakamise-dori after you get up to street level. When you get to the lantern. Walk on the first side street off Nakamise dori until you see a sign with a plum flower (about 2 minutes). Turn right there and Shigetsu will be right there.

I can't recommend hotels because I always lived in Japan but my personal favorite neighborhoods are:

Shibuya: excellent high class nightlife and shopping

Shinjuku: more very good reasonable shopping in "Times Square" and nightclubs in kabukicho/ni-chome

Harajuku: great restaurants, shopping, Meiji Shrine, Yoyogi park, but not the best nightlife although it is possible to walk to Shibuya from there.

These responses are helpful. What about the Ikeburo district? I found a good Internet rate at the Crowne Plaze Metropolitan, which would normally be well out of our price range. But is the location any good?

Ikebukuro is an upper-class area mainly known for shopping. It is convenient to Shinjuku, Shibuya, and Harajuku--a few stops on the Yamanote JR line.
