Where to stay in Krabi area

My husband and I are planning a trip to SE Asia in January. For the last 6 nights we will be flying into the Krabi area. We are interested in beautiful beaches and scenery, and I love snorkeling. Not into the party scene at all; looking for quiet and relaxation, with some day trips to the beautiful islands/beaches, hopefully somewhat away from the high season crowds. I'm feeling overwhelmed by all the choices and trying to figure out where we should best spend our time. We will probably split it up into 4 nights/2 nights or 3/3. I hear PhiPhi is the best snorkeling in the area and it looks so gorgeous; on the other hand, some say it is too crowded so not to bother. Would it be worth spending 2 or 3 nights on PhiPhi (Holiday Inn or Outrigger)? Also considering Tubkaak Resort, Amari Vogue, Nakamanda. Another option is to spend part of our time on Koh Yao Noi - heard it is more unspoiled and has lovely views. Also Pimalai in Koh Lanta is so well-reviewed - would it be worth traveling down there for half the time (perhaps with a day trip to PhiPhi?) Any suggestions on best use of our time and $ in the area would be so appreciated! Budget is around $250 or less/night. Thank you!
