I don't know your budget, but Laem Set Inn does have what you are looking for in terms of space, plus it's heaven for kids. We've stayed there 3 times, once over Christmas/New Years and twice in August. Been more than happy each time. http://www.laemset.com

Laem Set Inn is a good choice. A bit overprices for what it is, but you pay for the experience and seclusion.. Coral Bay Resort has family bungalows, which is closer to the developed Chaweng beach, but not too close. For luxury, ther's a new resort called the Evanson Hideaway at www.sixsenses.com

What beach are you staying at? Hat Chaweng is the most popular, Hat Lamai second most popular and definitely the sleaziest.

I stayed at Jungle Park, 3 km north of Lamai. 1,800 Baht a night (a/c bungalow) and I enjoyed my stay immensely. The downside is that the beach is rather shallow and you have to walk 20 min. south on the beach towards the area where the water is deep.

I am not sure their bungalows are large enough to accomodate a family in one bungalow. Check out their website:
