Where to stay for 2-3 nights between Tsumago and Hakone April 2015

Jump to last reply

We're visiting Japan for the first two weeks of April. Two nights Nara, one temple stay at Koyasan, 5 nights Kyoto, one night Tsumago.

Had planned to stay two nights in Takayama after Tsumago, but there is a huge festival there April 14-15. Would like to stay in Kanazawa instead, but it looks like about a five hour trip to get there from Tsumago, and another 5 hour trip to get to Hakone from Kanazawa. Seems like too much travel time for our two week trip.

Can you recommend a place to stay for 3 nights (April 13-15) between Tsumago and Hakone that would fit better? We'll stay in Kamakura for our last two nights in Japan, by the way. Flying out of Hineda airport, not Narita.

We're looking for scenery, temples and walking/hiking (not interested in the Toyota factory tour, for example).

Thank you!
