Where to buy football socks in Hongkong
This is really specific, but my husband would like to buy football socks and perhaps shin guards (lots of it) when we go to Hong Kong in November. Is there any place where he can get those at a good price?

Does that go for soccer too? My husband calls the game football but it's the game with that round black and white ball that the players kick around that he's talking about. He says Americans call it soccer but the rest of the world calls it football. Is there anywhere in HK where we can get youth soccer (aka football) socks?

Soccer (of football outside of US/Canada) is very popular in Hong Kong and is played by lots of kids and adults.
The most popular area for athletic equipment is in Mongkok, on Fa Yuen Street. Which is the street parallel to the Ladies' Market to the east. Lots of stores to shop from.

There are also some athletic good stores in Wan Chai on HK side, around Wan Chai Road and Johnston Road. But definitely not as many as there are in Mong Kok.
The ones on Fa Yuen Street usually open around 11am, and close perhaps 10-11pm.

If you are going to be going to Stanely Market, there are sporting good shops there. I have not particularly looked for shin guards and knees socks, but they have all kinds athletic shoes and tennis socks, so I am guessing they would have other socks, can’t be sure about the shin guards. There are about 2 stores as soon as you enter the market, and others along the alley. You should know your prices at home and bargain down accordingly.
Also try malls the “lanes” in Central, that is Li Yuen East Street and Li Yuen West Street. These are two narrow pedestrian-only lanes in downton Central running between Queens Road and Des Voeux Road. They sell all kinds of clothing at cheap prices. Again, don’t know about the shin guards. You can take the #12 bus down from the Bishop Lei and get off at Pedder Street, then walk back one block to Queen’s Road and turn right. There is a Mark’s and Spencer shop on the far corner that might be worth stopping into as well; they may be a little cheaper than at home and no sales tax. Walking down Queens Road toward the escalator, there is a McDonald’s on the right, the lanes start just past the McDonalds. They are open all every day until around 7 pm in the evenings.
For the shin guards, you may end up at a sporting good shop as these may not be discount type items, try one of the malls. If you REALLY want to hunt for them, you might try Dickson Warehouse which is a discounto outlset which carries sporting goods, but you may have to hunt for outdoor gear other than shoes. Located at the Kowloon MTR station on the Kowloon side. Take a look at http://www.dicksoncyber.com/mall.htm. I don’t know how much time you want to spend on this errand. I would try Stanely first (as you may be going there anyway) and the Lanes, as they are right in downtown Central, sort of on the way to the Star Ferry and definitely on the way to or from the escalator which I know is on your list. You should probably bring a shin guard to show to people, it will actually a lot easier than trying to expain what you want….
