What to pack? For Burma and Thailand

SO will be traveling from Yangon (end of October up to Bagon, Inle Lake, Mandalay (two weeks in November). November: Chiang Mai down to the tropical islands.

Not wanting to offend customs, can I wear tshirt and shorts? I read going into temples your knees need to be covered?

How do the locals dress? I notice that the men wear these wraps around their waist. Would that be weird for a westerner to follow suit?

Thanks

If you don't want to buy a longhi, and have zipoff pants, that is what I'd recommend. I've seen some men that wear capri length shorts/pants, which would work, too. Just make sure you bring quick dry fabrics since it'll be hot (except Inle Lake and Chiang Mai) and you'll want to be able to wash and wear your stuff often.

We'll be there around the same time and this year we're hoping to pack lighter than we normally do.

I think non-locals walking around in longhis scream "tourist." Wear what is comfortable for you, considering the heat and humidity.

Whatever you wear, remember that you will be in temples and cover your knees, shoulders, and cleavage, please!
