What to do in China

I will be traveling in from a cruise to Tianjin, China on August 14

We have a flight out of Tokyo on August 22 (trying to change this to a Chinese destination- but waiting on frequent flier miles).

We will be arriving in Tokyo a week before the cruise to explore Japan and therefore have from August 14-August 21 to explore China.
Neither of us have ever been before.

Can you please recommend how we should spend our days from Aug 14-21 in China.
What is there to see/do in Tianjin and is there anywhere else that we should travel near there?
