What shoes (and clothes) to pack for Thailand?

Jump to last reply

My husband and I are headed to Bangkok and Koh Lanta in July (first trip)! We'll also be spending a few days in Hong Kong. I'm wondering what shoes will be best to bring for the rainy hot weather? What do you Fodorites like to bring? I would normally wear flip flops (which I know aren't going to work) or sandals, and DH would normally wear low-profile sneakers (which I don't think will be best since they don't dry out very well). I've been looking at Keens (like these: http://www.keenfootwear.com/product.aspx?p=709) as they would be comfortable, dry well, and work for our beach time also. But then I feel like they'd be too casual for touring Bangkok and Hong Kong? Any recommendations for shoes would be greatly appreciated!!

Also, I know most people don't wear shorts in Bangkok. I'd be fine with longer skirts and capris, but I'm not sure what DH would wear? Wouldn't he fry in pants? Any recs for lightweight men's pants?

Thanks for any tips on clothing for the trip!
