What are your tricks?
Hi,pardon my ignorance but is it possible that paying them for overwt.luggage in the airport could be cheaper than sending your extra luggage by surface mail(that takes l month)from the HK post office?
l'm travelling alone and would like to know what are the tips/tricks to convince the check -in staff at the Hk airport not to charge me for extra luggage!Should l just approach any stranger and beg him to "share "some luggage for me?
Could someone in Hk call the airport to check how much they charge /kg over weight luggage to fly from HK to SE Asia(economy class).
Thanx!

Cozaar, in the current climate of drug smuggling and terrorist threats, I certainly would not recommend that you approach another passenger in the terminal and ask him/her to carry some luggage for you! This sounds like a good way to get yourself escorted away from the check-in counter and into a private room. As for the cost of overweight luggae, now you might have to pardon MY ignorance, but my understanding is that this is not an airport decision, but is worked out individually by airlines, some being more "generous" than others. So your best approach here would be to call your airline from home and ask them just what the allowance plus extra charges will be.
Finally, does it really take a whole month for a package to go by surface mail from Hong Kong to South East Asia?

Most airlines will be ok with up to about 27kgs, but if you know you are going to be heavily overweight, say 40ks plus simply contact any of the hundreds of express freight operators in HKG and send the extra as freight, it's cheap and efficient. UPS, Fedex etc have planes operating throughout SEA and also passenger airlines carry the stuff.
Please don't expect it for free, the rest of us land up paying for it!

What l actually meant is how to pretend l'm travelling with someone and can sort of "split the luggage wt.among two persons"NOT actually to ask someone to take my luggage! So now the qn. is what are the ways to chat up someone so as to pretend l'm travelling with him and therefore
he can help me "split "the luggage wt?
Thanx!

Cozaar you sound like a guy who is trying to do something illegal and get another person in trouble. Like Alan said, in the current climate of drug smuggling and terrorist threats, nobody in a right mind will agree to do anything like that. If you approach someone you will be reported before you know.
Please don't pretend you're so naive.
Pay it or learn to travel light

I traveled with a friend to Europe a few years ago. She had about 80 pounds of luggage after all her shopping and I had about 35 pounds. The airline didn't see us as having 115 pounds together. They charged my friend a lot for her excess baggage. We were not aware this would happen or we would have packed differently before heading to the airport.
