The Chiva Som is glorious, albeit expensive. The Hyatt at Hua Hin is a short stroll away, and I have stayed at the Hyatt and taken spa treatments at the Chiva Som. The Hyatt now has its own very luxe spa.

There are some nice, moderately priced spa resorts outside of Chiang Mai.

WHile you can bid on priceline, as you know, you have no say in the hotel they place you at. And Priceline's idea of 5 star is never the same as mine!

I am expecting that the flooding situation will soon be over in Thailand. They are accustomed to dealing with flooding, but this year has been exceptionally wet. I expect within a few weeks, things will be back to normal in terms of what you as a visitor will see.
