We are off down the Thai coast for a week

Packing the wagon, kids and dogs and heading down the Thai coast for a week, Cha Am, Hua Hin, Bang Saphan, Chumphon and south, so any questions about the area ask quick!

Remembered the spare but almost forgot the wife!

The road from BKK to Hua Hin on a rainy night cannot be called pleasant! Very buisy as so many heading out of BKK for the Apec week.

Rain at night but awoke today to glorius sunshine and that famous 'cool sea breeze'. Staying at the Beach Garden Hotel in Cha Am just north of Hua Hin, $35 for 4 of us! Great pool, nice service. The main beach area at Cha Am packed but good fun for the kids and we rented cycles this morning ( they have tandem cycles, 2 bikes together style, good fun, plenty of kids bikes too ). Had late lunch at Chjom View restaurant, nice food, good staff, $15 for 4.
Driving into Hua Hin this evening for shopping an market and food.

Have a good one James. We have a beach house just below Phetburi; when we started going there it was a simple two lane road that was exciting enough in the daytime, I wouldn?t have wanted to drive it at night! The present dual carriageway is an improvement, but on balance I try not to drive in outside of the cities after dark.

We are awaiting brother-ion-law and his family, who have also decided to escape Bangkok and APEX and to visit us in Chiangmai. I gather that they had a very slow trip out of Bangkok, probably worse that yours, as they would be passing the airport. I gather that there was total chaos there yesterday.

Just arrived in Bang Saphan, just on 2 hours by road from Hua Hin, there was some early morning rain but cleared up to sunshine by midday. Will report on the resort accommodation later. Had great seafood in Hua Hin at the 'Windy' restaurant over the water, aptly named. Chaoy Lay Seafood restaurant was packed full. Passed the Nirvana Retreat Hua Hin just past the Marriott and due to go there on our way back for a good massage!
Have heard very heavy rain in Samui so anyone traveling this week take your umbrella!

Staying at Suan Bankrut at Ban Saphan ( between Hua Hin and Chumphon ), great beach, perfect thatched bungalows with a/con, 2 bedroomed bungalow $60 for 4 of us so although not very cheap still great value. Very quiet and relaxing though Resort is full to capacity. Fresh fish caught by fishermen delivered right to the beach and straight to the outside grill, total perfection! The Fishermen will even take 'rofers for your catch', now that is something!
If you sincerely want to get away from 'it all' this is ideal, though very very quiet. Little rain but otherwise sunshine.
You can drive close to the coast with small villages, lots of fruit to buy direct from where it's grown.

Take a look and 'weep'!

Not going further south at the moment as reports of heavy rain so will head towards wherever the sunshine is.
