Oriental= on the river + amazing service+ historic charm
Oriental. The river does it for me.
If I was forced to pick between the two and I was staying in Bangkok for the first time, I'd pick the O for its river location - a great to way to experience Bangkok. For shopping and skytrain access, the FS location is one of the best but save it for your next visit
.
Of course, Oriental Hotel, it is also great in Food and Beverage. I think it is the best hotel in Bangkok.
Definately the Oriental. Being on the river is great and you can't beat it for history and atmosphere. I highly recommend taking afternoon tea there. Service for one is more than enough for two and yummy!
I've stayed at both. For a first timer I would say the Oriental although my favorite Bangkok hotel is the Four Seasons where I've stayed for years. Even if you choose the Oriental, drop by the FS for a meal. Biscotti is an excellent restaurant. Or you can drop by after having shopped in the area and just sit in the lobby where you can have drinks, and order food from the light-food menu, and listen to the pianist. The lobby at the FS is absolutely beautiful. Have fun. Happy Travels!
If you are there as a tourist, definitely Oriental
I have stayed at both and for a first time visitor the river makes all the difference in the world so pick the Oriental.

There are a lot of other river hotel choices
Aloha!
oriental = on the river = MAGIC
Definitely the Oriental. My favorite hotel anywhere.
