Vietname travel bookings in-country

How hard is it to book flights and trains when you are in Vietnam? Do I need to organise it all before arriving? thanks

We're not leaving until next Feb but my understanding is that it depends on the specific time you're traveling.

A friend of mine who traveled solo in Vietnam this summer said he just booked everything when he arrived and nothing was too much trouble regarding hotel rooms, tours and train/airplane tickets. But I was advised that Feb is among the peak months, so am thinking of reserving everything before I go.

Most times it is perfectly ok to book when you get there if you have the time and flexility. The exception to this is around Tet when the whole country seems to grind to a halt as people go home to there families for the celebrations. We got "stranded" in Hue for a week because of this as buses, flights and trains were all booked up. Tet in 2010 is 14 Feb so the month around this time may be a little difficult and you may wish to book well in advance.

Usually 10 days before and after Tet (14 Feb, 2010), transports will be booked out months before. And also, lots of restaurant close for a week during Tet. However, it will be good fun traveling through Tet.
Happy travel

If you not travel during Tet holidays, the train tickets always not a problem. However, you have to book flights as soon as you can before you start your trip!

I flew to HCMC a couple of years ago at the beginning of November. I think it was the next day when I went to the travel desk at the Sheraton after breakfast. I bought a roundtrip ticket to Hanoi for that afternoon. I bought it maybe 4 hours before departure and the return was less than a week later. The price was extremely reasonable. My options were something like US$90 in economy or US$120 in business class.
