we're going for 2 weeks, feb 21 to march 7. it'd be great to stay longer & travel more, but unfortunately, this is the most time we can get off from work.
after a lot of reading on these boards & in some travel books, this is the plan we have. any input would be appreciated....
d1 - arrive in hanoi (after travelling from chicago)
d2 - hanoi
d3 - hanoi
d4 - hanoi/ overnight train to sapa
d5 - sapa/eco lodge/trekking
d6 - sapa/eco lodge/trekking
d7 - sapa/eco lodge/trekking
d7 - sapa/ overnight train to hanoi
d8 - hanoi
d9 - hanoi
d10 - hanoi
d11 - hanoi to siem reap
d12 - siem reap
d13 - siem reap
d14 - siem reap
d15 - siem reap to chicago (flight leaving at 10:30 pm)
still haven't decided for sure on what our plan is in sapa. & we're also debating sapa vs train to hoi an.
after lots of consideration, we have decided to skip halong bay, since weather when we're going isn't predictable.

Good itinerary! You've done your research well! It sounds like a great trip.
Why are you spending so much time in 1 place in Vietnam? It has so much more to offer than Hanoi.

we are traveling from the us & based on past experience on travel to SEA, we have learned that 4 places is too much in such few days & we wanted to maximize what we are seeing.
still debating about sapa -- the other options are luang prabang & some trekking from there or an alternate location in cambodia.
although, i need to try to finalize our plan within the next week so that we can buy the flights before they get too expensive.
