Trip Report Tucan Travel Wonders of India and Nepal Review - Travelers, Beware!

Jump to last reply

Our tour, Wonders of India and Nepal, was very average and very possible not a good value for the money. Our tour leader in India was so bad that I have reached out to Tucan while the trip was still in progress. I have traveled with at least five other tour companies (Overseas Adventure Travel, Gap, Gate One, CIE, etc) so I have some experience in this area. I have provided some constructive feedback in hopes that they will consider it and make any changes they deem appropriate.

I will go right into it: our tour leader lacked many things: professionalism, knowledge, enthusiasm, courtesy... He forgot to tell us important things, he did not take into account the opinions of the group only certain members. I loved India but I was not learning anything! No matter what questions I asked, he could NOT answer. I understand this was not a historical expedition, but I was hoping to get some kind of background on the sights that we visited. He was pretty much clueless when it came to India customs and traditions. What a shame.

He also pressured us to tip. I am from the United States so I tip well but only if I am happy with the service. Our tour guide seemed to think that tipping is absolutely mandatory. Forgive me, but I disagree. It also made him look like a con.

He was also not very helpful with providing us with information about the certain area. In Jaipur I have asked him for help arranging a trip to a certain destination yet his answer pretty much was you are on your own with this one.

Lastly, I'd like to comment on the enthusiasm level. At certain points in our trip we are all tired but many times I got the feeling from him that he just doesn't want to be here. Well, we all have to do this thing called WORK. I think the members of our group feel that the guide could care less about our experience. In summation, our tour guide is disappointing. This is tough to say but the work he has been doing needs major improvement. So far he has been only doing one thing : arranging transportation and hotel. That is it.
