Traveling to Hyderabad for wedding

I was wondering if anyone could give me some advice. My husband and I are going to Hyderabad for a friend's wedding. We would like to make this a longer vacation and would like to travel somewhere for a week before heading to India (after the wedding we are spending a week or so in India traveling with friends). Any ideas of where we could go (somewhere warm preferably since it will be in Dec)? Thanks!!

Thailand? You could easily route your flight to India via Bangkok.

Thanks! I'll look into that and probably will be writing again with more questions.

If you can tell us where you are flying from to help gives ideas on routings, idealy you would want to work that additional destination into a stop on your long haul flight.
If you were flying from West Coast USA and wanted to do somewhere in South East Asia and then India then perhaps a RTW ( Round-the-world ) ticket would be best.
Also what sort of place you would enjoy, a busy city destination, a quite bach or island or something in between.
December is a peak time for travel so you need to plan ahead over the busy time.

In that case, I'd say go for someplace in SE Asia. There are good air connections through Bangkok, which would allow you to see a bit of Thailand in a week, or connections through SIngapore, from which you could arrange a week in Bali or go into Malaysia.

For historical sights plus cities then yes, South east Asia would be a good choice.
Looking at flights as you will ned to do soon for the busy time of year, you of course have the options to/from Hyderabad routing through deli, Mumbai or Dubai to/from domestic or regionals.

One flight though that may be of interst is that Ludthansa operate non stop between Franfkurt and Hyderabad, also also have a non stop between DTW and Frankfurt ( Ludthansa sadly I think still does not have PTV's in Coach however it is a very fasr way of getting to/from Hyderabad from either DTW or Chicago ).
Your choices in/out of Hyderabad from South east asia or not brilliant, however, Hyderabad is about 1 hour by air from Chennai(Madras) which has plenty.
if you could use a Star Alliance round-the-world fare you could fly United from Chicago to Bangkok, then Thai to Chennai ( put in that short hop to Hyderabad ) and then fly back with Lufthansa.
From Bangkok you could either visit places in Thailand or perhaps Angkor Wat if your budget allowed.
The big one is getting the long hauls priced.
if you can do all or most with say Star Alliance it should help keep the fares down.

Another option though would mean going through JFK would be to take Emirates from JFK to Bangkok, buy one way bangkok via Chennai to Hyderabad, and then Emirates Hyderabad-Dubai-JFK.

Another would be JFK-Bangkok non stop with Thai as a return, and then get local Bangkok-Chennai-Hyderabad return.

Others can also tell you about Northwest options from DTW but you can take Northwest all the way from DTW to Bangkok and then again get just a second ticket Bangkok-Chennai-Hyderabad.

Tell us more if you mave any mileage or are members of any airline awards program, also if you are Coach/Business.

I think I am right that if you are planning on december travel you need to look at those long haul seats soon.

If you are thinking about Dubai you can also easily do a couple of days in Oman which has great history and scenery. It's a fascinating place, just a 45 minute hop from Dubai.
