I will be taking a connecting flight through ICN/Seoul in November after a 2 week SE Asia Holiday. I will arrive at ICN at 8:45am with a connecting flight that departs at 12:00noon for the US. It does not leave much/any time to leave the airport?

I have searched info on the airport and see where there appears to be a train and ferry at the airport. (Train info is sketchy) How long does it take to get into Seoul from the airport by train? Is there anything near the airport to see within the first stop or would anyone take a chance on just riding the train into the city and back just to see Seoul?
It is the one Asian city I have not seen. I think it would be best just to go to the lounge and rest, but had to ask the question to people who fly into this airport on a regular basis or know it well?

UHHH no.. first off you plane may arive at 8:45 at the airport but after taxing, disembarking and possibly having too go threw security from arivals too departure section of the airport. You may be will inot 9:30 AM and remember that most flight especially international flight start loading at least 20 minuts before departure (someone please correcgt me here).

you should never play that game with that litole time especially saoul.. the city is about 1. hour +++++ from Saoul. .

You are a long, long way from Seoul when you are at the new Inchon Airport. It was built out on tidal mud flats by connecting some rocky islets with earth dams, pumping out the water, and filling in the space with rocks, etc. A highway and rail line connect the airport with the mainland. The airport is a real stunner, a marvel of engineering and quality construction. It reminds one of the Kansai Airport near Osaka. If you leave the airport, remember, you will need to have a Korean visa, go through a lot of checkpoints and paperwork, and run up a humonguous taxi bill.

subway scoundrel - are you perhaps taking the friendly planet vietnam/cambodia/bkk trip? if so, i would like to hear about your trip when you return.

I am not taking that tour but I am traveling by myself to Vietnam and BKK. I have not heard of this tour but looked it up and the schedule is much like mine but I will spend more time in VN without going to Cambodia. I am flying Korean Air through NWA and taking VN airline flights in country. It looks interesting. For the airport leave,, I think I will stay in the airport. Just wondered if there was a chance I could leave but I dont think so. BTW, as an American, would I need a passport for Korea?

I think you mean VISA.. you need a passport too go anywhere.

you don't need a visa to stay in the airport.

I too will be spending several hours in this airport. I think I'll get a dayroom at the airport. It looks to be about $60..

Yes, I meant Visa.....and I know you do not need a visa to walk around the airport and a passport to go anywhere. (I have been through 2 passports in the last 9 years due to so many stamps/visas) Per the original question----I also found out you don't need a visa if you are an american for tourism up to 30 days in Korea which is what I meant as my original question.
