I have always wanted to see Mt. Everest from as close as possible. I just read a story about a couple who were able to take a driving tour to the Base Camp. We are in our 60's and my husband has severe knee problems so a lot of walking and hiking is not possible for him.
Has anyone taken any of the tours to Everest Base Camp?
Where did you leave from - Tibet or Nepal?
How long was the trip?
Did you stay overnight at one of the hotels or monastery's further down the mountain on the return trip?
What is the best time of the year to go?
Thanks for any advice.

You can drive to the Everest base camp from Tibet. From Nepal, it's a two week trek.
Frankly, the best view of Everest would be from a sightseeing flight out of Kathmandu. The flight is about an hour and the views are spectacular.
Thanks Kathie, I know my husband would prefer the flight as opposed to what I understand would be an 8 hour drive from Tibet.
I take it the flights take off and return to Kathmandu?
Are there any other tours or suggestions you might have for touring up to the Base Camp area?
Yes, the flights are out of Kathmandu.
Really, your options for base camp are limited to those two. Your options for viewing the Himalayas, however are many. The best views we've had of the Himalayas in all of our travels were from Sikkim. www.marlandc.com/Sikkim/index.htm Bhutan also has lovely views.
Wow, your pictures are amazing!
Thanks so much for your information.
I will check out Sikkim.

Mt.Flight from Kathmandu is another option for Everest Panoramic view which makes you feel you are in EBC.

www.tucantravel.com lots of good trekking options
If mobility challenged and older with the altitude illness risk
EBC trek would be very risky uncomfortable and not fun...
mdtravelhealth.com Illness Prevention
Altitude Illness rarely can be fatal.
Better views on the Kathmandu flight for me LOTS easier.
affordabletours.com for India/Kathmandu Combos at great prices
