I'm in the beginning stages of researching SE Asia. I haven't yet figured out how to get from point A - B nor how far one area is from another.
Question - My only flight option may be to fly in and out of Hanoi. I'm wondering who flies from Hanoi to BKK and or Cambodia. I found Vietnam air which had somewhat limited flights and a short calender.
How about other modes of transport? train, bus?
I love a transport map and milage link if anyone has one.
Mucho gracias
Transport Hanoi - BKk

Ground transport is possible between Hanoi and Bangkok but it would not be wise. It would take forever and possibly even more expensive than plane travel.
There are many airlines that fly that route. Thai Airways, Air Asia etc. s
Air Asia flies between Hanoi and Bangkok, as do many other carriers. Between Hanoi and PP or Siem Reap, I think only VN Air. No trains go between those counties. For detailed info on overland travel (bus) see www.talesofasia.com
The Lonely Planet guidebooks give extensive info on overland travel.
Thank you. I'll take look at your suggestions. As soon as I semi hone in on the countries that I'll be visiting I'll get a few books.
Meanwhile, do most of you fly from one area to the next when touring SE Asia?
Yes. Overland travel is time consuming and not so comfortable in much of SE Asia.
Well, most fly, but certainly not all. I have done quite a bit of overland travel in SEA, but if you just want to get from BKK to Hanoi I would fly. On the other hand, if there are other places you want to visit it is certainly possible to come up with an interesting overland route. One option is via Siem Reap and PP and Saigon (I have done that route in the opposite direction, using a boat for most of the leg between Saigon and PP).
Kathie has already listed the best resources.
Thank you.I'll see if I can locate some boat transport.
air asia is an excellent discount airline provided you travel with a small amount of luggage...
air france used to have a flt fr paris that stopped in bkk and then flew to hanoi and back..
Unfotunately the open jaw tickets that I found ate too many miles. another problem I'm running into when researching is contradictory and/or outdated info.
I'll check Air Asia.
