Train or Private Driver Hue to Danang to Hoi An
My husband and I will be traveling from Hue to DaNang in January enroute to Hoi Ann. Is it a prettier trip by train or car? It looks like we will need a private driver/ car to get from DaNang to Hoi Ann ( we are not keen on bus travel and want to make the most of our time).
Should we just hire a private driver/ car to go from Hue to Hoi Ann? If so , any idea of cost and any suggestion of a driver or company to contact?

The train ride is an experience I would recommend. The scenery is wonderful and it is one of the best train rides in Asia. Takes around 4 hours. The car provides the opportunity to visit the Marble Mountains, Hai Van pass etc. And is probably better use of your time.
The drive between Hoi An and Danang is now mostly lined with huge hotel complexes.
Da Nang to Hoi An by car cost I think around $20 and is best arranged with your hotel. Hoi An to hue cost $50, da Nang to Hue,a little less.
Some photos and more info on travelling this section of Vietnam in the blog I linked to in your other post..

So on one hand you recommend the train but then you say the car provides the opportunity to see the Marble Mountains ,etc. Which would you do ? I wonder if we will be frustrated by not being able to take pictures of the scenery or is it worth it just to see it and enjoy anyways? Thanks for your help.

We're going to Vietnam and Cambodia for the 1st time in 2 weeks. We're generally very independent travelers but because we've never been to Asia we decided on using Tonkin Travel which came highly recommended through several sources. We've been happy so far with the planning and pricing. You may want to contact them given all the questions I see you're posting.
We plan to post a trip report after we get back.

Sorry, for the apparent ambiguity! I have done both. I really enjoyed the train journey, but as I said, I feel the drive would provide the opportunity to see the Marble Mountains and temples etc. which are efinitely worth a look. Some photos on the link I provided.
The train ride is more of an experience, still nice veiws but really only of the beaches.
