Tours in Hue and optional trip to Mekong Delta?

TonkinTravel has sent us a proposal for the Vietnam portion of our trip. We have the option of signing up for private tours. I don't think we need them in Hanoi, Hoi An or HCMC. I'm wondering if a car/driver would be handy in Hue. Also any opinions on a half day trip to the Delta from HCMC? Thanks!

We toured Hue with Hue Riders (motorcycles, with drivers) and it was a blast. I do think you're right that you need someone to get you around, as the sites are not all in the city itself - the tombs and some temples are in the countryside.

I agree with sf7307. You would need a car and driver to get to the tombs and temples which are outside the city.

A half day tour to the Mekong Delta would be very rushed. It takes us a good hour to hour and half to get there. On the way we stopped at a Cao Dei temple. At the delta we did a 2 hour boat ride. We spent a whole day doing a Delta trip from HCMC and found it very worthwhile.

I agree with both comments above. Based on sf's rec we did a day with Hue Riders and it was such fun. The guides were easy to be with and very safe drivers. It was a great way to c the sites.

As shelley says it would be terribly rushed to go out to the Delta for such a short period time due to the time it takes to rive there. It's doable for a day. We spent 2 nights there in different locations. While I'm glad we did it, I dont c it as a highlight of our trip. If I had less time it is one place I would skip.

Yes, make a motorbike trip in Hue, from Hue to Hoi An very interesting. Why don't you do it?
