Totally enjoying BKK AND The Peninsula, of course!

Day 2. Cannot say enough nice things about the Peninsula and thank you everyone for all your suggestions and travel tips.

We are putting them to good use.

I sure hope if anyone is around.. they will leave us a note at the front desk. A spontaneous mini GTG would be great fun.

So far, several temples, massage at one, Jim Thompson House and tonight we have reservations at Tongue Thai.

I will rite a report as soon as we get back.

After staying here, I cannot imagine enjoying another destination more. We wandered around the Embassy area where some other options were, but are very happy to come back t our paradise.

More later.

i told you so!!

have the cashew chicken at tongue thai---the best in bkk..

check out lim silver at the 2 locations near tongue thai---the best one is on oriental rd as you walk away from the oriental.... make sure you walk thru the oriental lobby too..

the penn boat will take you to the oriental if you ask them..

i usually take a taxi back from tongue thai...restaurant will call one for you OR you can take oriental boat to the skytrain and then take the penn boat...

Having great time. Will post our scam today.. made me laugh afterwards.. I thought I was SO on top of rings!! Ha ha ha!! (Well I did pretty well avoiding the scammers my first two days, but today they got us!

Tonight Harmonique.

We walked back to oriental pier and clappde for boat to come over and get us from the Peninsula Lounge, which we went down the wrong ski to get to.great staff. Wonderful city.

Tomorrow an all day bike tour.

Will sto an see th silver again. was admiring the window there. I agree, look dbery interesting.
Forgot to get cashew chicken!

But we had

spicy eggplant salad ( too spicy)
friend prawns with garlic
egg rolls
pad thai with soft shelled crab
stir fried morning glories
satay combo
two desserts. 4 beers, one water..about 2,500THB

Am looking forward to harmonique. Thanks again for all the tips and my husband does nothing but say what a good decision it was to be at this hotel ( Of course we know no other, but who can resist this luxury??).

I don't remember who said we would be tempted with some great value upgrades at check in.. and so it was.. My husband caved in for the suite and breakfast for three..

anyway.. it's been such a disastrous year in many ways that... what the heck.

we went for it even though it was such a good deal I doubt many would have passed up the suite with extra half bath and breakfast for three at $120 night plus taxes.

What makes me laugh is all the tie I spent calculating which hotels I felt were in the price range I wanted to spend and then THIS!! Life is funny!

..just to show you the LEVEL of attention at this hotel. The first day our room phone rang several times and even though we picked up and pressed LINE 1, it didn't stop. Then LINE 2.. the same problem. It just kept ringing for a short while and finally stopped.

I called just so they knew and to see if I had a call coming in or a message (as we were anxiously waiting for our son to arrive), NOT to complain, nor did I even sound upset.

Next thing we know, apologies by phone from manager.. Apologies in writing with a beautiful plate of fruit and then today, since we also had a couple unusual electrical situations in the room on and off, they offered to move us up to a higher floor( which we declined) and now have sent us a bottle of wine PLUS given us a fabulous rate with breakfast for our last night in BKK ( which NOW is a done deal after pondering going elsewhere).

Anyway, as you can see, I could go on about our experience here. As you can also see, we do not always travel as such .. and are really enjoying the pampering. One gets used to this very quickly!

I wonder what they would do if I DID complain about our new next door neighbors who like to talk VERY LOUDLY VERY LATE in the hallway in front of our door with their other traveling family friends whom for some reason they don't ask to come in and chat, but make all their arrangements in the hallway chatting at the open door?!!!

I hope tonight is different.

>>>Cannot say enough nice things about the Peninsula and thank you everyone for all your suggestions and travel tips.<<<

You are most welcome, lin, and your initial Peninsula comment warms my heart on this early Singapore morning; what a beloved property and staff and friends. But beware, lin : you could become 'Peninsula (and Bangkok) junkie', returning time and time again, slowly narrowing down your special Pen suites/rooms/floors, along with the all too few long weekends with loved one at the Peninsula's sisters in Hong Kong and Tokyo. (Yes, it's happened before, and I've loved each and every stay; something in that Peninsula 'DNA'.)

Now, hope your Peninsula neighbours are a bit calmer. Can assure you, it wasn't me; was in Bangkok earlier this week for very brief business trip and stayed at St. Regis. (Much more on that wonderfully evolving property at a later time.) If so inclined, am curious of your thoughts on the Peninsula's occupancy rate during your stay. The St. Regis this week certainly had rooms to spare, but thankfully not the 'ghost town' conditions I've experienced on other occasions at other BKK hotels for work. (And more info to convey later on another thread regarding additional St. Regis and Four Seasons promotions; a good time to be staying in BKK for business/leisure.)

Savour your remaining hours, riverside. Should you need a quick return Peninsula fix, can highly vouch for the Pen's Valentine's Day festivities; always a joyous time.

Early 'gong xi fa cai' to you and all from our fine home of Singapore. The next several days in sweet SIN promise to be most festive.
