Tipping private tour guides in Thailand

Jump to last reply

I've just read through previous posts on tipping in Thailand and feel I've got a handle on what is and isn't customary in most cases. I have a question for our upcoming trip in October, though. In Bangkok we have arranged to have a private guide for one day in the city, using public transportation to help us feel comfortable with the system, and another private guide for a day outside the city--private car. In Chiang Mai, we have arranged for a driver and a guide for a 2 day trip Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Chiang Mai. What would be on target in these situations?
