Time needed at ya goon Airport

About how long does it take to get to the Yangon airport from downtown? we are staying at the Traders Hotel. About how much time will we need to check in and get to the gate to fly to BKK? We will be flying Air Asia and checking bags. thanks!

Traffic depends on what time you are leaving the hotel. With no traffic it takes about half an hour. With traffic, ???? When we were in Burma, which was before the tourist onslaught, check in for flights was very fast and efficient-about 20 minutes from entering the airport to the gate. These days I'd ask the TA for guidelines.

Half an hour was my experience. The hotel will be able to tell you when you should leave for the airport.

the waiting room was horrible so the less time spent in it the better... but do allow 1-2 hours total... its a very small airport.

I can still see the thousands of flies on the ceiling---yuck.

Bob, the international terminal is new. There is even a Thai lounge for those flying Biz class on Thai.

The first time (2009) we left Burma it took 45 min to get through passport control even though there were only a few people ahead of us. They had two people looking at each passport and taking notes (on what?), then it was handed to a third person who also took notes before handing it back and sending us on our way. It was much faster the second time we were there (2011).

I'd say if you arrive 1.5 hours before your flight you should be just fine.

Thanks for the additional info. Just trying to decide whether to take an 8:30 am Air Asia flight or the one that leaves at 12:50. If we take the 8:30 am flight it sounds like we would need to leave our hotel by 6:30am. For the 12:50 we could sleep in a bit and leave our hotel by 10 and have plenty of time. Such decisions!
