Tibet, last week in July - You know you want to! :-)

Hi, there!
My boyfriend and I are looking for other Americans to travel with in Tibet the last week in July. We have a tentative plan with Tibet Highland Tours (all Tibetan and highly rated) to start in Lhasa July 21st and end at the Nepali border on the 28th. We can't change those dates due to our other travel plans and the plane ticket we've already bought out of Kathmandu (bought it before the 5 people of the same nationality nonsense). We're young (mid-twenties), fun, up for an adventure, and we'd love to travel with you - anybody, hah. We'd really hate to skip Tibet, but it's not looking so well. So if you're even the LEAST bit interested please reply or PM me!

All the best,
Jessica

Not sure why you need others to travel with you if you are already going with a tour group?

There is a new rule that to get the TTB permit, there has to be at least four persons from the same country in the traveling group. Maybe that 's the issue.

From my Facebook page.
Responsible Adventures: Yesterday.

'Got an email from my Tibetan Travel counterpart that they haven't been able to get Travel permit for any foreigners since Monday. He suspects that the permits might not be issued till October this year...'

Hi dogster - good to see you! (I refuse to FB)

I hear the same bad news about travel to Tibet. May be worth trying for, but definitely have a good plan B in place if/when plan A falls through. I also heard that it had to be the same visa type, not just nationality.

It is not four but 5 people from the same country that you need to form a group.

Well, they aren't issuing permits at this moment. 4, 5 or whatever number.

I am sorry to say that I just heard what rkkwan stated. We were just told by our tour organizer that: the Chinese Tourist Authority issued a new directive– NO PERMITS FOR TRAVEL TO TIBET will be issued to foreign travelers for the time being - there is no indication of when this will be lifted but I think it will probably extend through the summer and fall as this is the most popular time for foreign nationals to visit Tibet. My wife and I (just two of us) were looking to go in September so are in a similar situation to you but now it might not matter if we add additional people. You might want to verify this new.

By the way, in the statement above the "I think" was what my tour organizer thought not my unqualified opinion. The last sentence was mine and should have said...You might want to verify this new directive.
