The LIT Bangkok
Hi all!
Has anyone already stayed at The LIT Bangkok? I´ve been reading some good reviews, except for their Breakfast.
Also, is Siam Square a good area to stay or are there better places? We are not going to Bangkok to shop, so we don´t care much about where the good malls are. We are looking for a good hotel located where we can go for a walk in the evening and also, somewhere near Skytrain or Subway.

Warm greetings again bruno (and if memory serves correct, you earlier enquired about the Millennium Hilton in beloved Bangkok).
Now, have yet to stay at the LIT (my main BKK business travel property these days is the St. Regis), but did experience the lobby and bar areas not too many weeks back. The hotel struck me as yet another fine addition to the ever-evolving Bangkok lodging scene. (And its location brought back fine memories of one of my earliest BKK work hotels, the good old Pathumwan Princess. From there, the next stop for BKK work for me was The Regent, known these days as the Four Seasons -- now that's a forever special place. A rather close neighbour of the St. Regis, and I never miss a chance to swing by and say hi to some good FS friends and management.)
Like you, I'm not a shopper (except for certain Jim Thompson products for the women in my life), so will gently suggest continued perusal of much more romantic riverside hotels for you and your beloved. (Trust me on that score -- and over the next ~ fortnight, I should have some interesting first-hand reports from that too-long neglected Mandarin Oriental and a 'soft opening' partial review of The Siam.)

I dropped by the Lit for a look a month or so ago. I was curious about the distinctive sun screen, which you can see from the Skytrain. The photos from my visit can be found here:

As for the area, while I wouldn't underestimate the allure of Bangkok's malls, I would have to say that while there are a number of restaurants in the area, they aren't exactly the best the city has to offer. The Plaza Athenee is a good suggestion, although I think the new Okura Prestige has opening offers that put it in the same price range, and it's right at the Skytrain station, with it's own bridge right into the building from the station. You can't get any more convenient than that.

There's more to do in Bangkok malls than shop. There are some good restaurants inside of a lot of them, along with huge supermarkets. And at Paragon Mall, there's even an aquarium on the lower level and with a glass bottom boat that one can take. The mall is also a great place to go to escape the heat and pouring downpours of rain. bangkok is not really known as a city where you take a nice stroll generally as it is so humid 24/7.
i do not think of the siam area as good for this even if there was no humidity, except that it is not far from the big park.. plaza anthanee is a lovely hotel and well located. so is marriott mayfair and i especially love the street it is on.
soi 55, sukhumvit is another nice street for a stroll. there are a few hotels there. i recently stayed in the pan pacific there..

Thank you all! We are still looking for a hotel in Bangkok. There are a lot of good hotels and the fact that they are not concentrated in just one area makes it harder to choose one..

Yes, it can be difficult if this is your first visit. If that's the case, then the advice to go for the riverside is still probably the best option. There are a range of options available, in a range of prices, everything from the Ibis up to the Penn and Oriental.
If the Siam area doesn't appeal, and I'm not sure I would disagree with that, then the area around the Okura, Athenee and Conrad would be a good option. I wouldn't call it quiet, but it's generally pleasant, and there are a number of independent nice restaurants in the area, offering a range of cuisines (assuming you aren't crazy for Thai food). There's the Okura and a Novotel right at the station. The Athenee, Conrad, a Centre Point and Sivatel are all within walking distance (although the Conrad also is far enough away that it has a shuttle). There's an Indigo under construction, but it won't be finished until next year, at least.
