The Empress is a rather large tourist class hotel at the far edge of the night bazaar area. Not a bad place really, for a large tourist class hotel.

Although, it does suggest that her company (or clients) are rather cheap. The Shangri-La or Le Meriden would probably be much nicer. ;-)

Then she will fit right in, Bob!

Michael, thanks! I wanted to make sure it was not a real dive, because I would of paid out of pocket to put her up someplace nice, but for free, I think it will do. They probably picked this place because its a really big convention that she is interpreting for so I am guessing they needed a big place.

Thanks again, jeffrey

Hello Jeff & April !

Stayed here for close to a week when we were in CM also for a company paid conference.

The standard rooms they gave us was overlooking a sludge covered building foundation that was "forgotten". The BR grout had deeply imbedded mildew that gave my son severe allergies ( imagine swollen & red eyes). After Housekeeping insisted that they had already bleached it, with nary a difference from how it previously was, our agent upgraded us to the deluxe rooms. These were on higher floors & were recently refurbished.
It may be worth spending a few dollars for the upgrade. I offered to pay for it but our agent realized we ended up in a real bad room.

Bmt, thanks! That is what I was looking for! I think I will work on the upgrade for her.

Does anybody know what,if any, hotel group this place is connected with?

My GF stayed in one of the suites & it was old but clean. Deluxe rooms looked like the best deal to me.
Food was surprisingly good considering we ate lunch there for almost 5 days.

The Empress is not affiliated with any group, hence the shoddy maintenance. You come to expect that with locally managed hotels in Asia.
