Thailand (Phuket) Vs Sri Lanka For Honeymoon

Greeting to everyone and I hope I find you all well.

I would very much appreciate advice and views regarding my dilemma.

I can't decide between Phuket Thailand or Sri Lanka and possibly a maldives stay for our Honeymoon in September.

Both countries have different strengths with Phuket appearing to be more friendly and customer focused and Sri Lanka being more of an experience regarding culture and sights.
Please correct me if I am wrong.

We would like a fair mix of beach / mid range luxury perhaps at the end and sight seeing which is a must as we are not the type to sit on the beach every day.
I've searched forums, tripadvisor etc etc but it only sems to make my choice harder.
I have to consider the season too. If anyone has visited both places I would love to hear your views and thoughts.
I know the accomodation seems a bit hit and miss in Sri Lanka but I also understand that is part of the experience.
We could go anywhere in the world really and have kind of settled for these two destinations.

Any help would be superb.
