Thailand in March

I've read in a few places that the fields are burned in the north during March. I was just wondering from those who have visited during this time, was the reduced visability and lack of air quality enough to ruin your trip? We plan to go to Bangkok and Krabi during the midle of the month. My husband has mild asthma and I'm trying to judge if we should look into another area to travel to.
