My fiance and I are starting to research honeymoon spots for february/march. Would this be a good, romantic trip or should we stick with places like the Taihiti? I am just trying to find out if the season is right and if it is a good trip for us right now. I have heard mixed opinions on this region for a honeymoon. Thoughts?

Thailand is a very popular honeymoon spot. Compare prices with Tahiti - you can have a fabulous honeymoon for about half the price of Tahiti. Since you mention Tahiti, it sounds like you are interested in a beach resort for at least part of the time. February is better than March weather-wise.

I'm not suggesting that you book through them, but this is a nice list that gives a sense of the range of honeymoon-worthy resorts in the Phuket area.

You might want to combine a beach resort and some time in Bangkok- unless you are die hard beach folks.

As for beach versus town, we definately want to do both. Any recommendations of how long in Bangkok, Chaing Mai and Puhket? Any other city we should go to? Should we day trip in the beach area or two hotels?

feb weather would be cooler for sure... april is the most hot month of the year.

for bkk hotels for a honeymoon I suggest: peninsula, anantara riverside, plaza anthanee, Conrad, st regis..

for beach I suggest jw Marriott khao lak, jw Marriott Phuket, renaissance Phuket, Sheraton krabi or my special choice is amari vogue at krabi.

Definitely spend time in Bangkok. endless things to do/see and fabulous shopping and eating. I'd suggest choosing a beach that appeals to you and staying put. You can day-trip, but a day trip to a lovely place like PhiPhi will put you off because it is crowded with other day trippers. Choose one place and stay put - more time to enjoy, less time spent packing and unpacking.

Is there something specific you want to do/see in Chiang Mai? If so, I'd build my stop in CM around that activity.

We ended up booking Peninsula for BKK and 137 Pillars for CM. We are day triping at the beaches but are at Trisara in Phuket and Tubkaak in Krabi. Thoughts? We wanted no chains as we got out of the cities. Amari vs Tubkaak was our toughest choice.

All three of those hotels in the Phuket area get excellent reviews. I'm sure you will be happy with them.

It's hard to beat the Pen and I've heard great things about 137 Pillars. Enjoy!

Any places to eat that cannot be missed? OR activities? We are doing elephants in CM and Phi Phi tour in Phuket.

Try to have a meal at Mom Tri's Kitchen while staying on Phuket. We just had lunch there two days ago. Fabulous! It was nice going at lunch time for the view. Dinnertime would be very romantic. The Kitchen is located between Kata and Kata Noi beaches. It overlooks Kata Noi beach. After not having visited this area since 2006, I was amazed at how much the "sleepy" Kata beach has changed! It is very busy now... a tourist trap, pretty much. BUT, the Kitchen is in a beautiful peaceful quiet location.

I hope you have researched the elephants - lots of bad operators. Take a look at the Elephant Nature Park.

The one Phuket activity that gets rave reviews is John Gray's Sea Canoes. Most of the rest of the stuff is missable.
