Thailand and Cambodia in November

I'm planning my honeymoon in Thailand and Cambodia for November and need some advice. Planning to fly from NYC to Bangkok and then straight to Phuket for a few days. Then back to Bangkok for a few days. We are then planning on going to Cambodia. What's the best way to get from Phnom Penh to Siem Reap? How long does a river boat take? Is it worth staying in Phnom Penh for a few nights? Should we skip Phnom Penh and go straight from Bangkok to Siem Reap? We need to get back to Phnom Penh for our flight back to New York regardless of how long we stay. Thanks.

If you have to go to PP to catch your flight back to the US, then don't stop there on your way to SR. You can fly from Bangkok to Siem Reap non-stop on Bangkok Air.

I am confused about why you need to go through PP to fly back to NYC - what is your routing? Of course, there are no transpacific flights from PP.

MelissaCathereine-we just flew JFK-BKK-Phuket on Thai Air. Very smooth. We cleared immigration and customs in Phuket with no one in line.

Unless there has been a recent change - EVA flies Phnom Penh thru TPE to US.

thanks for all the info! we are flying from PP to bangkok to NYC on our way back. this was the cheapest option. i know direct flights from bangkok to SM are pretty expensive.. is there a better way to get there? i don't think we want to drive but does it make sense to fly to PP then take a boat to SM? then a boat back? or would it make more sense to drive from PP to SM?

Take a look at the Bangkok Air Discovery pass. They fly to SR and Ko Samui from BKK. They charge per leg for at least three legs. You can savce quite a bit. You pay in adbvance for paper tickets, but it's a very good deal. You can skip PP and focus on your main destinations.

Phnom Penh is well worth a visit for a couple of days if you have time. I would advise taking the bus (Mekong Express is best at $9) and not the boat. Both will take about the same time 5hrs. The boat may not even be running as most people opt now for the bus as the road is quite good. If you are taking the Air Asia flight it gets in early morning and you can easly catch the 12.30 bus to SR. Spend the time visiting PP on the way back. The cost this way would be BK/PP/BK (Air Asia) $90, Bus $18, BK/Phuket/BK (1/2 Go) $95 for a total of around $203

The other alternative is to skip PP and using the Bangkok Air Pass fly BK/SR, SR/Phuket, Pluket/BK for $276
