Thailand 1st time - June travel

I'm planning a trip to Thailand with my 18-year old niece. I've traveled in other parts of Asia, but this is my first time to Thailand. I've read what a lot of others have posted, but not all of my questions have been answered yet... so thanks in advance for any tips!

My niece and I are both the adventurous / explorer types.

Although we do want to see some beautiful beaches, we will most likely want to remain active (snorkel, take a boat ride, etc). I know we will want to spend a few days in Bangkok, but I'm not sure where else to go.

Things we like to do:
- Waterfalls
- Ziplines
- Snorkeling
- Local markets, etc
- Rafting / boat tours, etc
- Explore some city sites, but mostly we prefer getting away from the bright lights (while still being around other people)

Our trip will be around 10 days. I know weather plays a role. Late June is likely the timeframe.

Thanks for any thoughts/suggestions.

My first thought was Koh Samui and Bangkok. That should fill up your 10 days with plenty of things to do/see.

Carol is right, Bangkok plus a beach area is a good combination. Koh Samui will have better weather than the Andaman Sea side.

Thanks for the tips. Is Phuket a good option in June?

Thanks!

June is rainy season in Phuket, weather will be better at Koh Samui or Hua Hin.

In Bangkok, I'd highly recommend you choose a hotel on the river. The Anantara Riverside is lovely, but there are a number of river front hotels. You want to be able to take public transport places: the water taxis on the river to the temples and the skytrain to shopping areas.

It helps to know what your accommodation daily budget is.

Here's a guide to the various public transport options in Bangkok...

all suggestions are budget related??? although Thailand is reasonable.

we love anantara riverside in bkk, but also chatrium riverside.

do have any favorite hotel chains? many are represented in Thailand.

samui is great as is khao lak, but it is on the Phuket side---we love jw Marriott, khao lak.

Budget is $100 USD daily for hotels. I'm glad you mentioned the Anantara because that is the one I really like but was uncertain due to it's location.

Also, for beach -- I would rather have sun than rain (though I know there are no guarantees). Any recommendations on hotels / best area samuai?

Thanks!
