Taxi service at Bandaranaike airport

I will be arriving on a late flight(1AM) and need a taxi to the Cinnamon Grand hotel. Will it be difficult to get a taxi at that late hour? what should I expect the fare to be?

Thanks

JS

Your flight arrives about the same time as many international flights. Believe me, there will be taxis waiting for you. Sorry, I don't know the fare.

There are ATMs at the airport in several different places so you can get the local currency.

Kathie and others,

I contacted our hotel (The Cinnamon Grand) regarding the expected taxi fare to the hotel and they said they can arrange a car for $50, or get us a taxi for $30, but if we choose the taxi, "they can not 100% quarantee our safety".

Should we be concerned about our safety if we take a common taxi to our hotel?

Thanks,

JS

No, not in my experience. I consider Sri Lanka a very safe destination.

I think they just want you to book through them, as they then get a cut. So I would expect a taxi from the airport will be well under $30.

Some people want a car waiting for them when they are arriving in the middle of the night in a new country. If you would prefer to use their car, that's fine, but I wouldn't consider it unsafe to take a taxi from the airport.

Hi the cost would be around USD 30 or else you can request the hotel to send you a taxi which will cost USD 50-75

john - great choice of hotel. We had dinner there one night and we wished we'd been staying there, instead of at our hotel, the Galle Face.

Sri Lanka did seem to be very safe [partly because of the large no. of troops and police around, admittedly] and you will find a lot of official taxis at the airport. if by any chance you should arrive and find that's not the case, i'm sure that you can ring the hotel and they'll send someone. they'll charge of course, but it might be a good idea to have the hotel no. handy for when you arrive.

It's a wonderful place to go - I hope you enjoy it as much as well did.
