I wouldn't be able to pinpoint teh taxi fare, but should be less than 10! As it is you noted that Singapore taxis are clean, honest and disciplined, being an expat, and extremely cautious about getting cheated, i can assure you 99% taxis are avobe suspicion. btw, just in case the taxi driver takes a slightly different route, it might very well be to avoid one of the jammed expressways esp. during office hours. Dont worry about taxis, they are cheaper than places like India and worth the trust.

Sorry I can't remember the amount, I just know it was very cheap. I really responded because I wanted to tell you to make sure you also visit the bird park while there. The night safari at the zoo is also great.
Have fun!

If you are that concerned, I would suggest you call or e-mail the hotel, or ask the doorman when you arrive. By law, fares are set at S$2.40 for the first kilometer and about S$.40 for every kilometer thereafter. Figuring 20 kilometers to the Zoo (rough guess), the S$10 (US$6) figure mentioned above would seem correct.

Thanks for the input. I have been to Singapore many times and we always travel by taxi. I never thought anything of the price, but this time I am bringing the extended family (12 of us) and we will need 3 taxis to go anywhere. I was just trying to see if it would be worth it to rent a small van or stick to convenience and taxi around. As it turns out, Vans for 12 are not readily available during our stay, and AVIS quoted me 200/day!!!! so taxi it is. Luckily taxis are still very reasonably priced.
Tina perth... the bird park is on the list. Thanks for the reminder
