Hi,
We will be in Bangkok for 2 days. Which of the 3 hotels would you suggest? We will not be spending anytime in the hotel - this is our first time in BKK and would like to see as much as possible, so the location is important. Also, knowledge of area by the staff of the hotel is important.
Once of the reviews for Center point on trip advisor said that there is not adequate tourist info. We cannot afforfd to waste any time.
Thanks,
Sukhumvit soi8, Center point silom or Adelphi : Bangkok hotels

Just want to point out that both the Adelphi and Center Point Silom are service apartments and not hotels and you might not get the same level of service or tourist information as you would from a hotel.
With two days to see BKK, you will probably visit the Grand palace, Wat Pho, Wat Arun, the Jim Thompson House, MBK, Chiantown and ride a river ferry. If you plan the days, you won't need much support from the hotel/serviced apartment. You will be taking taxis and the skytrain to get around. Make sure any taxi you use uses the meter and ignore anyone outside a tourist attraction that tells you that it is closed. You'll do fine.
Thanks. Our flight arrives from Krabi at 8:00pm. We would like to do the floating market. Preferably a private tour that reaches the market at 7:00am, following which we can do the tiger caves and maybe elephant camp (incase we don't wind up seeing that in Krabi). Can I book this prior to reaching BKK?
I'd leave out the elephant camp as you are not giving yourself much time to see Bangkok!
ok.....do you know how much it would cost to do a private round trip to the floating market from the city? How should I book it. Also, will it be less crowded on Friday or Satruday morning. We intend to reach there at 7:00am to avoid the tourist buses.
Thanks.
I am really surprised that the Centerpoint Silom does not get more rave reviews and that more Fodorites have not considered staying there. We highly recommend the facilities. While it is a "serviced apartment", it felt exactly like a hotel. The location is superb - one block from both the river and sky train. The breakfast buffet was terrific with a great variety. Our room had a nice river view and was very nicely furnished. The beds were quite comfortable and we had the added benefit of a washer and dryer in the room which was nice to have considering the humidity. The staff was very helpful and there was free internet service in the lobby. For people that do not want to spend the money that it costs to stay at the Penninsula, Marriot or other popular hotels, this is a viable option. We spent less than $100 per night and couldn't be happier. By the way Angel - I believe if you look under specialty hotels or some other categories besides Hotels, Trip Advisor does give the Centerpoint Silom a very high rating.
dgun---many people feel they have to have a hotel...personally i consider a serviced apartment a limited facility hotel...
buy yourself a guidebook and you need not rely on hotels for help
i vote CP silom
Angel - We bought the Nancy Chandler map of Bangkok in advance and it helped tremendously. I reviewed the map ahead of time to help decide how I could optimally allocate my time. Bangkok is a very easy city to get around in if you use the sky train and river boats. Don't be afraid to use the tuk tuks. While many people avoid them, we felt they were a great adventure and preferred them to the air conditioned taxis.
Hey Carol- where are you? This topic has your name all over it.
