Suan Lum night bazaar closed?

Suan Lum night bazaar closed?
I have been scouring posts and the internet and cannot find if it is now really officially closed down. If it is, aside from Chatuchuk, what other market in Bangkok is similar? thanks!

Further to what Michael has said - the lease for the Suan Lum Night Bazaar has expired several months ago and the people who are still there are being gradually evicted by the court.

I think!!! its the new mall section at Chatuchak. When we went last year there were some "indoor" type stalls up by the MRT and a lot of construction round the corner (not sure if that has anything to do with it but they had built a nice new building!!

Thanks for the info. If you should happen to go there in the next 10-12 days I'd like a report. I'm coming over in two weeks, and would include JJ mall, if it's worth my time. I like Pratunam, Platinum, Nari Phand, etc. sorts of places. Thanks.

Frankly, I wouldn't make a special trip to JJ Mall, certainly not on a weekday. It makes for a nice place to escape the heat of the market on weekends, especially as there are a lot of restaurants inside, but it's not that big. There's another extension to the market going up next to it, which expects to attract the remaining Suan Lum vendors.

I found Suan Lum to only have what you could buy elsewhere but at higher prices. Try Silom night market (gets going around 8pm), Sala Daeng Skytrain station. Sukhumvit has a night market (starting from Nana area heading out of town direction) but is more expensive and you have to haggle. There are various other night markets, one near the Grand Palace. Most times there is a night market on Ramkhamhaeng, starts around Soi 17 (The Mall) Soi 12 (The Mall and heads northwards. A day market is Khao San Road, Banglampu, back of Ratchadamnoen Klang (Democracy Monument). End of Khao San road turn right and walk for five minutes and there is another rambling street market which heads along streets to your right. There are a number of large markets in Chinatown, notably one left of Yaowaraj as you face traffic and another left of Charoen Krung as you face traffic (now going in the opposite direction). Both near cross street Chakrawat.
In any market or crowd, watch your pockets. There are a fair number of pickpockets operating in Bangkok now.
