Sri Lanka Plan Query

I'm right now in Kandy and intend to cover the cultural triangle - Dambulla, Polonnaruwa, Sigriya and Anuradhapura - within the next two days.
1.What is the cheapest and yet convenient way to cover all this?

2.Is there any private bus plying this route which can get me there comfortably?

3.Private transport/tour operators are a bit on the expensive side. They're charging Rs.12,000 to cover this in 2 days and that also via a tuk tuk, and that is in addition to the accommodation, food and entrance charges I'll have to bear. Sigriya Lion Rock alone would cost me Rs.3,300 just for entrance. Is there anyone amongst you in Sri Lanka right now who wants to go to these places and share the transport cost?

4. Do you know of a private transporter that is far cheaper than this?

5. Where should I base myself/spend the night over?

6.Which is the most cost-effective but decent hotel/guesthouse to stay overnight?

Any help in this regard would be much appreciated.

Saqib, I suspect that the high price you are being quoted is to do with the very long distances that you want to travel. To try to do all of these sites in 2 days AND to see something worthwhile while you are there is going to be quite difficult. As you are in Kandy you already know what the Sri Lankan traffic is like; I would say that getting to Anuradhapura and back in 2 days is next to near impossible.

You would have a better and cheaper experience if you cut that out of your itinerary.

I can't help you with local resources but there are many travel agencies in Kandy who are likely to want to help you, albeit you are wanting to do this at very short notice, which may also put up the price.

Good luck.

If you are looking for a really low budget option suggest you go to the Kandy bus station and take a bus to Dambulla and start from there.

Low budget accommodation near Sigiriya - look at Sigiriya Rest House or in Habarana look at the Habarana rest house.

As the previous poster says 2 days is very short time suggest you drop Anuradhapura and do Dambulla,Sigiriya only.

saqib - i'm glad that Mohammed has confirmed what i said to you. He gave me a lot of good advice when we were planning our trip to Sri Lanka and he was spot on about the time it takes to travel around.

Agree your initial plan wouldn't work. Also, ALL admissions in SL are crazy high, not just Sigiriya.
