Looks like a new route on Air Asia from KL to Colombo. Today's The Star, (Penang) has flights from as low as 99MYR. A bargain! Booking period 2-7 June 2009 for travel 15 Aug 2009-30 April 2010. Wow, they don't muck around, those Air Asia people! The country has survived a violent civil war & now looks like it will take it's rightful place as a top Asian destination. Good luck, Air Asia & Sri Lanka!

Wow this sounds like a great deal guess we will see may more Malasian friends over here in Colombo. Wonder if it will be offered vice versa so that we Sri Lankans can also fly off to KL for a few days.
Recently SQ has also been offering some great deals from Singapore to Colombo and many visitors have been taking advantage of these rates and despite the civil war which was mainly confined to the north Sri Lanka has been one of the safer travel destinations for foreign tourist since quite a while.
Noiw that the war is officially over things should improve however it will be a while before the north opens up as there is a lot of reconstruction, rehabilitation and de mining to be done in that area. That said, the East is open and beautiful too, I have been in Trincomalee/Nilaveli several times in the past couple of years with my family and kids and it is heaven. Arugambay is wide open for surfers too.
The wildlife reserves in the south are all open and great leopard sightings being reported, right now it is palu season and some beautiful sloth bear sightings as well with mum n cubs.
Good news! Thanks for the info.
thanks L, good news
