Hi,
I have had a good look through previous posts, but was wondering whether any of you had recommendations for a restaurant in Singapore that meets the following criteria:
- reasonably low-key in terms of ambiance (ie not formal or fancy)
- no need to make a reservation
- great food (any Asian cuisine)
- quite close to Raffles
Thanks in advance for any guidance you can give me.

Lei Gardens Chinese restaurant...walking distance. It's located in the Chijmes complex. I'd call, if I were you, to see if you don't need a reservation because they can be very busy.Great food. It's one of the best in Singapore and not overly expensive. I love it. If you type in the SEARCH box..."Boston GTG-Announcements" and then click on "Most Recent Post" and go to the BOTTOM of the thread and then scroll up to August 20th, I have done a whole section on Singapore and restaurants. I vacation there annually.Singapore is very small and Raffles is right at the MRT(subway) station
or you can taxi to other restaurants very easily since there are over 15,000 taxis in Singapore, I've been told and it's very reasonable to take a taxi. The whole country is only 254 square miles big. Los Angeles County is 500 square miles big to put it in perspective. Singapore restaurants can get VERY busy as the country is food obsessed. The food is great there. Happy Travels!
Correction...it's easier if you type in Boston GTG...and THEN scroll to the one that says Boston GTG--Announcements...as it was accessible this way. Happy Travels!
Perhaps my favorite restaurant in Singapore is Doc Cheng's, which is in Raffles. It's a casual place, not dressy like some of the other restaurants in Raffles, and it's pan-Asian cuisine.
