Hi, my wife and I (both 29) are going to start a 6 month journey in SE Asia. So far this is what we have:
1) Singapore
2) Bus to Kuala Lumpur
3) Bus to Penang
4) Fly to Phuket - beginning of April
5) Ferry to Koh Phi Phi
6) Fly to Koh Samui
7) Ferry to Ko Phang nan
8) Ferry to Ko Tao
9) Flight to Bangkok (from Koh Samui)
Questions:
1) How long should we stay in each?
2) Did we miss something incredible on the list in Thailand?
3) Penang or Langkwai?
4) I have a shellfish allergy and plan on getting a laminated card in Thai that says "NO SHELLFISH". Will I be ok in the Land of Smiles?
Singapore, Malaysia, and then Thailand for an entire month

KL-1-2 days unless you want to go to the magnificant area of Cameron Highlands in after March 15 and stay for 2-3 dats and see the tea and relax amonst the tea and flower plantations. Fly to Penang.Use Asia Air to Phuket. Here hotels tend to be expensive but there are a number of snorkel opportunities. Even a day trip omn a fast boat to theSimilan Island for very good snorkeling. We found hotels high priced and and enter, ent right your age. Food a little expensive. Why Ko Phang nan. Only a daytrip from Koh Samui to Koh to Koh Tao for smorkeling or maybe one night (2 Days).
Bangkok worth 7-10 days including floating market. Did you consider the north and have a guide take you to a few of the hill tribes?
Hi StanKase, thanks for the response! We are staying in KL for a week since we have a friend that lives there. We did look at a flight to Penang but heard the airport is an hour from KL.
Similan Island is a definite possibility! We are doing Ko Phang nan since it is so close to Koh Samui and Ko Tao since it's very close. Would you not recommend these 2 islands?
We are trying to stay on a budget and being American, we are only allowed 30 days in Thailand without a visa. And since we are starting in Singapore and heading north, we want to end in Bangkok so we can fly to Vienna for cheap.
You can go around Singapore for at least 2 days, 3 days maximum. You can visit Universal Studios Singapore, Sentosa, Singapore Zoo and Night Safari, National Museum of Singapore, Marina Bay Sands, Jurong Bird Park, Esplanade Theatre, Marina Bay, Merlion Park, and the Singapore Flyer.
Then you can stay in Thailand for at least 5 days since the tourist destinations are kind of far from each other. Here are some interesting tourist spots in Thailand:
1. The Grand Palace in Bangkok
2. The floating market
3. Samphran Elephant Ground and Zoo
4. Nong Nooch Village
5. Bang Pa-in Palace
6. The Ruins
Enjoy your trip!
