Definitely the oriental. Sheraton Towers is not actually in Orchard road. Its at Newton MRT station. Nothing happening there once you get back to the Hotel. Mandarin Oriental is located near Cityhall/Suntec area which although is not in Orchard road, its very accessible to other tourists attractions and has more city beat. Most importantly the rooms are better.

Having said all that, why are these your two choices? How about I suggest a boutique hotel call Gallery Evason? Its hip, located in a nightlife (very safe) district, and modern. But if that is not your style, I really reccomend either the Grand Hyatt, Mandarin Hotel, GoodWood Park Hote or for 3 star comforts but still in the heart of town, Pheonix Hotel. These hotels are located all within steps of each other and in Orchard road.

Email me if you have further questions

I just returned from Singapore and I stayed at the Sheraton. I was there on business, but the Hotel was certainly nice. Sheratons are nice in Asia. It is true about not being very close to all the action but taxis are very reasonable so we jsut taxied to where we wanted to visit in the evening. Last year I stayed at the Pan Pacific which is more centrally located but I still ended up taking taxis everywhere to actually see what I wanted to see. If you like Indian Food, make sure you eat at Banana Leaf Apollo, in little India. They serve the food on indian leaves. It's a great experience!

Hi Ursula
The New Otani is a modern hotel (about 20 floors) which is connected to Liang Court shopping mall. The mall houses shops, Starbucks, a Japanese Dept store, book store & a large supermarket that's open until midnite. Next to the hotel is Clarke Quay along the Spore River.
The hotel is comfortable & offers 4.5 star facilities. Rooms have got views of the city or Fort Canning Park. It is about 5mins taxi ride fr the main Orchard Rd shopping belt.
You will find a good Japanese restaurant in the hotel as well as Trader Vic's of San Francisco which serves the most innovative cocktails with cute names, not forgetting that their smoke oven lamb is yummy too.
I frequent these restaurants.

If you're considering staying in this hotel, I would recommend it. Hope the info is of help.
