Singapore Hotel: One night, uber romantic, money is no object

Most romantic may well be Raffles. Yes, it is touristy, but the lobby and the public areas are very impressive. The Fullerton is also an option. The St Regis is new, modern and luxe, but a different atmosphere. Check out their websites and some reviews. Also, a number of SIN hotels are running some good offers, tourist arrivals are down. If you have time, don't miss out on the chili crab. It is a terrific and delicious dish. Have fun.

I just stayed at the Fairmont on the club level and it was great-non-stop refills of champagne and good breakfast/canapes at night and lovely views. The room was modern with a balcony, not uber romantic but I would consider the suites that Kathie mentions. The FS was somewhat romantic too, although I only had a regular room. It's a much more intimate hotel and they had a stay 4, pay 3 and if you book thru a Virtuouso agent, there are extra amenities.

Another vote for the Fullerton but check out the suites instead of the standard rooms.

We really liked the Four Seasons...service was excellent and rooms have been redone last year so they are "new". A Loft Suite at the Fullerton might be more special in terms of room, though. I've seen various opinions of service at the Fullerton.

Singapore is more pragmatic than romantic. I'd suggest the Ritz Carlton. The bathtubs with the big octagonal view windows look so alluring. Plus there's a nice spa.

If you have the time to commute: the Banyan in Bintan. I haven't been there; they say it's just an hour's journey. Not technically Singapore, but close enough.

There's a new hotel called the Capella that's been getting a lot of good press. It's on Sentosa though, which may be an good or bad thing, depending on what you're looking for. It's built around an old colonial building, which now houses the uber-luxe suites.

I vote for raffles, whilst it is touristy in areas, its still a lovely hotel. Am so laughing at that shaving your legs reference, many mnay women will know where you are coming from....

Do have a meal at Doc Cheng's in Raffles. SIt in one of the romantic curtained booths.

Now, if someone else is paying, suggest you go all the way, with those sensational Singapore Girls, R/F/J, in 'n' out of charming Changi. The Art of Travel, indeed.

As for lodging, can personally vouch for only the Four Seasons, Raffles (it's been a few years) and a little private place in a little 'residential' neighbourhood (and that one's classified). (And certain family / friends / relatives have always enjoyed Goodwood Park and Tanglin Club - perhaps not your scene for one night of 'warm' bed sheets, but who knows.)

Savour your sweet SIN evening, and should you go with the FS, do remember those in-room massage treatments ... (and my all-time cherished FS SIN masseuse) ...

What a fun question! If money is seriously no object, then for sure look at presidential suites and the like at each hotel.

I enjoy the history and ambience of the Raffles, but the rooms do not have any views; most, if not all, rooms have views of interior courtyard/garden spaces, so if a view is important to you, that would not be a good choice. Perhaps as it is only one night, a view is not so important. IMO rooms are a little dark because of their limited windows and interior locations.

I agree that the suites in the Ritz-Carlton with the big bathtubs located at the windows and their very good views would fit the uber romantic category. They have bath butlers and so you don’t even have to draw the bath yourself. (IMO their spa is just OK its really just part of their gym, its not dedicated spa, and IMO is one of the minor drawbacks of this hotel.)

I agree that with the right room at the Fullerton, which the suites would undoubtedly be, you would have a good view and a rooftop balcony which would be a great treat. Location of this hotel is excellent IMO.

I would also for sure mention the Shangri-La, one of their Valley Wing suites would be luxurious and have excellent service (not the same views as the Ritz-Carlton or Fullerton, but green and quiet). This is one of the few hotels in Singapore that has grounds of sorts.

I agree that either of the Four Seasons certainly has the service and generally quite plush rooms. I would probably go for the Four Seasons on Orchard Boulevard as opposed to the Four Seasons/Regent, as the former is a high rise and would offer some city views. The Regent is a lower rise with no real views to speak of (although like the Shangri-La would be green/quiet).

Have not seen the views from the rooms at the St Regis. I am not a fan of the Orchard Road area to begin with, and you would not have water views in any event, but service would certainly be good and as a basically brand new hotel, rooms are bound to be quite luxe and fresh.

I would also suggest your look at the Stamford Swisshotel. It is one of the tallest buildings around, and the upper floor rooms offer really excellent harbour and city views; if you were to get a suite there I think that might be quite a good experience. Most every room has a balcony which is nice plus (they are small but a nice feature and rare in Singapore hotels). I have not stayed in many years so can’t speak about the rooms, but read tripadvisor and see their website to get an idea. A suite on a high, high floor may be a romantic experience.

Capella is actually a new chain started by Horst Schulze, one of the gentlemen who developed the Ritz-Carlton chain. Don’t know much about the Singapore hotel, certainly looks interesting on the website. Note that this is a very new hotel, like about 6 months, so there may be teething/training issues. My Luxe Guide also mentions the Amara on Sentosa, but I don’t know anything about it, see http://www.amarahotels.com/en/locations/sanctuary/index.html. When I lived in Singapore, I always enjoyed Sentosa for its “away from it all” feeling right in Singapore; however the issue with Sentosa for tourists without a car is its location vis a vis the airport and the city, esp for one night. If you don’t plan on leaving the hotel for the day/night then it is fine, but if you want to see something of Singapore, maybe have dinner in Singapore, etc then the distance from downtown can become a pain, and distance to the airport can be a pain too.

I have enjoyed many good times at the Tanglin Club, but would not call the guest rooms uber romantic by any stretch of the imagination…. You also have to belong to a club with reciprocal rights to get a room there, but check http://www.tanglinclub.org.sg/ to see if your club at home has reciprocity.

Sentosa Island has its own Shangri-La hotel, the Rasa Sentosa Resort.

Funny no one has mentioned the Mandarin Oriental or the Pan Pacific yet.

The location is unknown to me. I've thrown out some suggestions based on your kind recommendations. My job is to show up for the flight and not forget my lipstick. After that, I'm just going to work on being "present" and try not to spend the night calculating how many books and kilos of rice that much money buys.

My vote would go to Raffles, good location not to far from Orchard Road if you like shopping, great food, friendly staff. I would fly with Singapore Airlines on the A380 Airbus first class if money is no problem, would start things of well. Hope you have a great time.

Smeagol, since I'm not paying, I'm not deciding. I've thrown the options out there and we'll see.

The whole thing is starting to eat at me. I spend every day scraping spare change from the couch cushions of the universe to put kids in school. I can't stop thinking about what I could do with all that money. A horrific waste of resources, but saying anything about it sure puts a damper on the "mood".
