Singapore Hotel Choice

Which is the best hotel choice for Singapore: Sheraton Towers off Scott Road or Marina Mandarin near the water? Will be there in mid November. Thanks for your help!

Not sure about Sheraton Towers, but I've stayed at the Marina Mandarin and it was quite a disappointment for the money. Rooms definately need to be updated.
My vote (for a few bucks more) is the Shangri La.
Raffles being the ultimate choice

I also a not a fan of the Marina Mandarin. In addition to the rooms, I think the location is a bit too far out on the waterfront. The Sheraton Towers is smack in the middle of the shopping and restaurant action in Singapore. The only thing you would not have is a harbour view, but you would have some city view.

If those are your two choices, I would pick the Sheraton. If you have any other choices, let us know and we can provide our opinions.

Close to Orchard Road there are just so many, the Crown Prince I find great value for money and superb location ( if you want to be near/on Orchard Road ).

I have had the opportunity to stay at Raffles a couple of times, and it is clearly the "odds-on" winner in SIN, if you can stomach the prices. If the hotel appeals to you, you might want to email the general manager and ask if they have a "special" rate during your stay. I did this, and saved about 100$/nite off their "quoted" rates.

OTOH: I've also spent many nights at the Sheraton, and find it a fine hotel. Try and get a room on the 5th floor near the pool. The rooms that open onto the pool are nice, but the ones across the hall have very very big patios.

Should be nice weather during your stay! Best wishes, Dave

Are those your only two options? I've heard other complaints about the Marina Mandarin, and I visited the Sheraton Towers off of Scott Road. The Sheraton is not actually in the middle of the shopping area, but a fair walk (in the heat). I'd suggest that you look at other options. I like the Grand Hyatt, near the intersection of Scotts Road and Orchard Road, right in the middle of the shopping. Or consider the two towers across the street from Raffles Hotel (if the rates at Raffles make you feel faint). They used to be Westins (then Starwood), but one tower is now managed by Raffles and the other by Swisshotel. That's another great location. I saw wonderful rate at the Raffles Plaza (the tower managed by Raffles) at www.asia-hotels.com.

The Four Seasons gets many rave reviews, as does the Ritz Carleton.

I have stayed at the Sheraton last October. It is very nice and about a 5 minute walk to the closest MRT station. Another 5 minute walk to Newton Food Court. Walking to Orchard road would be a stretch. The Marriott on the corner of Orchard & Scotts is very nice and the Ritz Carlton by the marina is superb. I stayed at the Sheraton last time because I got 3 nights for the price of 2 paying with a Mastercard.
