Im taking a family holiday to singapore in November and wondering what its like in regards to shopping im looking for general items as well as touristy things such as fake watches and pirated dvds, i know they arent common although can they be found.
Also where is a good place to stay in the city close 2 shopping districts.

orchard Road is mainly department stops and the somewhat 'grotty' Plaza, I think the best area is close to Bugis Junction, good shopping center and also the Bugis Street night market which is dirt-cheap. DO BE careful these days buying fakes, your Customs back home are on the look out and there are now severe penalties for this stuff, you could find yourself in trouble over what many people feel is harmless, they are really clamping down these days, I think the days of getting a Gucci or Rolex are fading very fast! Good mid-range family hotels include Allson, Miramar, new Park. The New Park is about US$60 a nigth double, good value and everthing you need, Miramar is nice too. Both have pools. The MRT is brilliant way to get around.
