Siem Reap to BKK to LAX-time between flights?

We leave Bangkok for LA at 7:40 pm. We'll be coming in from Siem Reap that same day and we were planning to take a flight that is scheduled to arrive BKK at 4:35 pm. There's an earlier flight that gets in at 2:20 pm. Anyone have any thoughts on whether 3 hours is enough or should we take the earlier flight?

I'd book a flight that had two backups. That is, if there is no arrival after the 4:35PM or between the 2:20 PM and 4:35PM flights, then I would book the one that arrives before the 2:20PM flight. Both the 2:20 and 4:35 arriving flights would be backups.

Or maybe I'd go with one backup - meaning I'd take the 2:20 arriving flight if the 4:35PM flight was the only other one before the BKK departure. The only way I'd be on the 4:35PM flight would be if the 2:20 flight was cancelled.

Maybe coming back the night before from SR is the way to go. Then we wouldn't have to face a potential 5 hour wait at the BKK airport between flights. And we'd have a day to do some more exploring in Bangkok (we'll have had 3 days there before SR).

Yes, that's a better idea, zainib.

I would spend the last night in Bangkok. This way you would not have to worry about missing your connection and you can do some last minute shopping.

Get a hotel near the Skytrain so you can get around the city cheap and easy.

Good luck.
