Short Seoul stay

Am in an internet cafe/playstation place in Gangnam-gu in Seoul. I got to Seoul yesterday on an Asiana flight from Narita yesterday afternoon (Saturday) after a redeye from Bangkok. The Asiana flight was perfectly on time, good service and food. Was in business class and it was the first time for me to be upstairs on a 747. Took the KAL bus from the airport to the hotel. It is very comfortable and convenient.

Came here to visit my nephew who is serving in the US Army just north of Seoul. He was able to stay over last night, but went back tonight.

Staying at the COEX Intercontinental which I booked on Priceline. Had two twin beds last night and did not sleep very well, so I switched to a king room this morning.

Got pitifully little sightseeing done, but it was a great, short, trip to Seoul. Last night, we went to the COEX Mall that is right under the hotel. This is a good place to stay in the winter, I think, because of the the convenience of the mall, you don't have to go outside.

It was very busy. Had dinner at a restaraunt called Deep Blue which is connected to an aquarium in this whole complex. Nice restaraunt, good food but small portions, artfully presented. The great feature of the place was the window wall that looked into the aquarium. There was a school of fairly large fish swimming about, two 7-foot sawfish, a couple of 6-foot sharks, a huge amazing sea turtle, and a variety of other fish swimming about. Then over to the Hard Rock Cafe for a drink and a couple of t-shirts.

We talked all day today until after 3PM when we decided to go out. By the time we got to Insadong the palace was closed so we just went to a tea house and talked some more. It was so good to see him. This was the best part of my trip so far. I hope he doesn't have to go back to Iraq.

On to Toyama, Japan tomorrow.
